Welcome To Book Club
I have always had a love for books! At least, I loved being read to as a kid, or road trips where my dad would make up random stories about miners adventuring and mining for gold. I guess I love stories and storytelling. Because when I’m honest, I only loved to read what I wanted to read. In school, when I was assigned reading I would do anything and everything I possibly could to avoid reading. I would say, “Well, I can’t read… I need to clean my room.” Another task I hated, but I have to say it was the lesser of two evils.
It wasn’t until I had an English teacher who chose classics that I loved, taught me about my inner critic and encouraged creative writing, that I realized I really did love reading after all. It was a way to escape reality and jump into another world. A time of falling in love with characters and doing a little self reflection as you decided who you were most like and who you knew you wouldn’t want to hang out with in real life.
When I lived in Arizona, I had a book club with all my teacher friends, and when I moved to Texas, it didn’t take long for me to find people who also wanted to read. I LOVE reading other stories, but I mostly LOVE talking about them. It is so interesting to me that a group of people can read the same thing and take away completely different ideas. Our #mtaybookclub has been around for over a year now and so I have decided that it’s time to start talking about these books! This month we are reading Today Will Be Different by Maria Semple. In Arizona, we read Where’d You Go Bernadette by the same author and I couldn’t wait to read Maria Semple’s new book that all takes place in one day! How is she ever going to do that?
