May’s Book | Twenties Girl
Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella was our book for May, and oh my goodness what a pleasant surprise it was! Sophie Kinsella is the author of the Shopoholic series (which I didn’t read but would LOVE to one day). This book is so good! It really impressed me because It seemed like a cute, fun, story (which It was)…but It delivered so much more! There were great themes, depth to most of the characters that was fun to dive into, and a great story of finding your strength when people have written you off.
Lara’s great aunt appears to her in the midst of her own funeral and demands that Lara stop the funeral and find her necklace. Reading this premise, I was thinking, I don’t really want to read this book. It seems so strange. The main character is basically seeing things… how is this going to be good? But, what unfolds is so great! Lara and her great Aunt Sadie have a dynamic relationship and uncover so many hidden secrets throughout the book that you can’t help but be surprised. Sophie Kinsella is an amazing author. This read was fun, witty, and full of layers. I can’t wait to read another one of her books.

1// Why did you choose this book? I chose this book back in December thinking that the twenties theme would be fun since we were entering our own twenties (which have turned out to be anything but fun so far!). I read this book right when It was released because I’m a big fan of Sophie Kinsella. Her books are always easy, fun, and satisfying. This is my favorite book of hers because It has so much heart.
2// Which character did you relate with the most? Who did you not understand? I related to Lara the most because she has the best intentions and tries so hard but things still seem to go awry for her. Still, she perseveres.
3// Describe the perfect setting for reading this book. This is a great book to read on a cozy rainy day under a blanket with a candle burning.
4// What did you take away from the story? Did you learn anything about yourself? I was in my early twenties when I first read this book and It made me look at seniors in a totally different light. My favorite part of the whole book is when Lara looks around the nursing home and sees everyone as they saw themselves: young and vibrant. That really struck a chord with me.
5// Would you recommend this book? Have you read any other books by this author? If so, would you recommend them? I would absolutely recommend this book. I’ve read every single Sophie Kinsella book and this one is my favorite.
