Date Night | Dinner and the Theatre

After this date night the quote “The theatre, the theatre, what happened to the theatre?” came to mind. This is a quote from one of my all-time favorite movies, White Christmas!

Thursday nights Aaron and I have a standing babysitter so that we can go on a date night! It is wonderful! We started off doing every other week, and finally pulled the trigger on every week and It has been amazing! We love getting time together without the tiny voices that usually interrupt. Don’t be mistaken, we usually LOVE those tiny voices… but as someone whose love language is quality time, uninterrupted time is a game changer.

Some Thursdays we eat with the kids and then go do something we couldn’t normally do with kids, some Thursdays we go see a movie, sometimes it’s dinner or cocktails. But, no matter what date night makes It nice and easy to talk to each other.

Our Date Night Rule

We have one rule for date night… No talking about logistics. With little time together, it’s easy to get caught up in talking about the things that need to be done or the activities quickly approaching on our calendar. But, date night is “Fun night” for the parents! It’s not only time to connect, but time to take a break from our big responsibilities.

The Benefit

Date night has like I kind of mentioned been a long time coming. Not long into having kids we realized that with the growing number of responsibilities, It wasn’t as easy to just “hang out” with each other. We started to feel like passing ships with little connection. For us, date night has been a wonderful answer!! It has helped us to reconnect to our pre-kid selves that fell in love 8 years ago! We laugh and just enjoy each other! It has really helped to create new memories together. During those moments when we just pass each other on a daily basis as we are working together to accomplish all that needs to be done, it’s helpful to remember how much fun we still have together!

Dinner and The Theatre

This Thursday I WON tickets to the theatre! If you want to know how, send me a DM @meggie.taylor and I will share! We got to see Tootsie, a comedy musical adapted from the movie you may have seen with Dustin Hoffman. It was hilarious!! I mean we were both laughing so hard!

The night started at Desert Racer in Lower Greenville. I’ve passed this spot many times and never made It in, but It was the perfect outdoor patio/bar for a fun bite to eat! The cocktails were good and we made It in time for happy hour! I had the deconstructed taco salad and Aaron had the flautas – both were incredible! We both thought It would be a fun spot to come back with a big group of people or with our kiddos! Lots of outdoor space with foosball and more! The vibe is very California desert which of course I LOVED!

When we arrived at Music Hall to park, we thought to ourselves “wow, I guess no one wants to see Tootise” but then we quickly realized we had the completely wrong venue! Woops! Such a platinum moment – so unlike me. I’m kidding, I feel like I do this sort of thing all the time! We quickly hopped back into our cars and headed over to Winspear Opera House for the show.

We made It with plenty of time to enjoy these seriously incredible seats! We were right in the center and I’m so glad! We laughed so hard throughout the entire show! The actors were incredible and the story was so funny! Neither Aaron nor I had seen the movie, but sometimes I like going into a show “blind” with no expectations!

I have to say, It was a great night! Going to theatre is a wonderful date night idea, especially if you win tickets!! Tootsie is playing through April 30, so it’s not too late to get tickets!
