Parker + Nicole’s Dallas Engagement
This time, I’m doing something a little different on the blog… I’m letting Parker and Nicole tell their story themselves. I loved all the detail they gave me and I just think it’s better coming from them.
How We Met:
Parker and I met in the most traditional fashion…on TINDER. It was love at first swipe.
First Date:
Our first date was actually on Halloween. My cousin Lesley, was having a party at her house and said we could come over and go out together as a group. On my way, I stopped at Target, but it was crazy busy. Once I got out of the store, and to my car, I realized the battery died. Parker had definitely thought I stood him up. One of those “Oh no, my car broke down” situations. Let’s just say it had the momentum for a great story. We had an amazing time dancing around the Shops at Legacy, and we hit it off like a metaphor.
Proposal:
Parker and I went to Mississippi for a weekend to visit my dad in the spring. I didn’t think anything of it, just having some good ole bonding time. We get back and a couple of days later my dad calls to check in. Before we get off the phone, he lets me know that Parker asked for my hand in marriage over the weekend. Super causal, like it wasn’t a big deal or anything. Fast forward to the summer and I’m with my dad in in Mississippi, just visiting again, and Parker keeps texting him. After a while, my dad just mentions that Parker wants him to come out to Dallas for a weekend in August. Well as it turns out, that was going to be the proposal and my dad just let the cat out of the bag. All plans ruined…or so I thought.
August came, and August went, with a lot of anxious weekends waiting to see when and how Parker would pop the question. Towards the beginning of September, I received an email from Parker’s company, inviting us to a party celebrating his promotion. I didn’t think anything of it at the time, but there was a whole surprise waiting for me.
The day of the dinner comes, and I am thinking of any way out of it that I can. This is because there was a ton going on, and I simply wanted to lie down and rest. I was starting a new job the next week, had just submitted my two weeks’ notice, and we were moving into a rental house the following week. “My stomach hurts, I don’t feel like going out, etc. etc.” I was really trying to stay put, but Parker was persistent so we went.
I don’t know how I didn’t pick up on all the clues before the dinner. We aren’t having a pre-party or drink before we leave, the dinner is at one of my favorite places, Saint Ann’s, Parker seems nervous, The Wedding Planner and 27 Dresses is playing on the TV beforehand. I had a slight feeling this may be it when the Uber was picking us up from the apartment, but No, he can’t pull this off. Although there was a plan, I took over the Uber route, and we were dropped off in the wrong space, and Parker frantically started texting the hidden photographer and friends there.
As we walked up to the table, I noticed there was a bottle of champagne, roses, and candles. “This isn’t for us,” I told him. “We need to move.” “Actually Nicole, this is just for us” was Parker’s response. He dropped to a knee, and asked me to marry him. After pictures and saying YES, we went to Happiest Hour, where my brother from Brooklyn, Mother and Father, and 50+ of our friends and family were waiting to celebrate! We cannot wait for the wedding and the rest of this journey that is life!
