My Morning Routine

Wow! I cannot believe my morning routine, let alone even having a morning routine again! When I had kids this went out the window. My me time was hard to find, and I was waking up in a fluster to crying kids due to unpredictability of their schedules, or my failed attempt to go to bed early. Anyone else feel me here?? Thanks to my business coach, Rhonda, I am slowly but successfully getting my morning routine back consistently!

Talking With My Business Coach

In one of my first meetings with Rhonda, I remember she asked me where I wanted to be in five years. Knowing where I want to be, has truly helped me prioritize what I do today (but that is another blog post). But then I asked her, “How do I change all of these things that I am doing so poorly? I don’t want to be doing them but how do I break the cycle?” “How do I wake up early if I my baby has a bad night?”

First she told me, “You have to just do It. You will never have the perfect circumstances to attain your desired routine. You can’t just say I will be able to do such and such when such and such happens, or It may never happen.”

How to Achieve a Morning Routine

She encouraged me to change one thing at a time. Now, this seems easier than It is. I’ve heard this before but “how?” And, she gave me a great nugget of wisdom and said choose one thing every week to change. I thought, ok. I can change one thing at a time. She said whether you change something personal or work related It will all spill into other areas of your life.

First

I decided to get a hold of my life first and I changed my snacking. I decided not to snack after dinner. This has been such a bad habit I adopted especially after having kids and having no time to eat during the day. But, eating at night is the worst time to eat, so this was my first change.

Next

The next week, I decided to drink water when I woke up. The week after that, I set my alarm to 6:15am. The following week, I set my alarm for 6:00am and spent time reading my devotions and writing in my prayer journal.

Eventually

Eventually, I added a business book to my morning routine, switched to black coffee, started walking with my family when they woke up, and even began intermittent fasting.

Results

I am truly so amazed!! I am much happier jumping into my role as a mom after coffee and a little time to myself. We all enjoy getting out in the sunshine before the sunshine becomes unbearably hot. Changing one thing every week was seriously magical. It didn’t seem hard! Think about It. If you tried to wake up and change everything in one day It would be so overwhelming. Changing one thing every week gives you time to adjust and appreciate what you are doing for yourself. Over the last month and a half I have changed so much!

My morning routine

And, Rhonda was right! It’s spilling into my business, too. In the best ways possible. I have regained momentum and inspiration. I am enjoying doing what I love. I have a long ways to go to get to where I want to be, but this morning routine is proof that change is possible if you do It one step at a time.
