Date Night Ideas During a Pandemic | Outdoors

Aaron and I are big advocates for dating your spouse. It is so important, especially once you had kids, to make time for each other. This is not hard because I LOVE Aaron so much and feel so blessed to have such a wonderful as my husband, but it is hard because life just gets busy. Before you know it, you are getting your kids to bed, picking up the house and climbing into bed.

Aaron and I could see early on how most of our conversations were about Kaden. How did he sleep? How did he eat? Was he happy today? What should we do about childcare? Can you watch him on Saturday while I have a wedding? Can you make sure to keep him at 7am so I can go for a run?

Aaron is my best friend and we have made the decision and commitment to continue dating each other so that we don’t come home after our son’s graduation and look at each other only to realize we don’t know the other person anymore. I can see how easy that would be, it is totally understandable, and I just don’t want that to happen to us.

At BSF last year, the women were all talking about how important it is to keep dating your spouse and Aaron and I finally decided to hire a standing babysitter for Friday nights. Emilee is the BEST decision we have ever made… not only for Kaden, but also for us. We can leave and enjoy a night out together.

Now, insert COVID, and things have changed quite a bit, our dating options are a little more limited but I wanted to give you some ideas in case you are looking for some.

Find something to do outside where you can easily be as close to or as far away from strangers as you would like.

Boating and Takeout// This is our go-to date night right now. Aaron and I have been ordering take-out from the Harbor and boating over there to pick it up. Then, we enjoy cruising around, eating our dinner, water skiing and swimming in the lake! It’s really a dream! We have probably ordered too many Royale’s with Cheese from Rodeo Goat…but so worth it!

Music// In Rockwall, we have free music at the Harbor on Thursdays and music in Downtown Rockwall on Thursday, Friday and Saturday night! It is free and so fun! Ignore all the sweat on my face… It was so hot but It was worth It! What a great night!

Drive-in Movies// Drive-in movies are making a big comeback these days. It’s safe to sit in your car with your family or in the back of the tailgate and enjoy a good flick. Aaron and I just went to Tate Farm’s to watch Field of Dreams! It was $20 per vehicle and the money goes to support Patriot Paws. They also had food trucks! It was so great!

Golf and Tennis// I know it’s so dang hot, but it’s still fun to go out and play tennis or golf. You can make it an early morning date or an afternoon date, but being outside and being active together is always great! Also, Harry Myers Park just opened up new pickle ball courts… so that’s fun, too!

Outdoor Dining// There are so many fun places with outdoor dining. Honestly, Aaron and I have really been making a lot of our own food, but we have been out to eat at The Downing in Rockwall. They are one of the few places in Downtown to have outdoor seating and they have an amazing menu!! The wine is also so good! In Dallas, we have gone to Flower Child. They have indoor and outdoor dining. We felt very safe dining inside because they took so many precautions, but everyone has to do what they are comfortable with. The Henry is one of my all-time favorite places to dine and they have a great outdoor spot!

Thursdays at the Arboretum// Aaron and I just purchased an Arboretum membership and it has been wonderful!! We took my parents and we have gotten to go so many times! I love it! And, it’s so nice to be outside and see the lake and the flowers and just take in nature. Thursday nights they stay open late until 8pm, so it’s a great date night to go out there since we have a little drive from Rockwall.

Food Trucks at Klyde Warren Park// Friday and Saturday nights from 5-9:30pm the food trucks are packed at Klyde Warren Park and it is so fun to go hang outside in the middle of the city. We haven’t done this in awhile, but we need to go back soon!
