Kaden’s Birth Story

Well, what can I say? I didn’t really write a whole lot down because there was just so much going on and It is all such a blur now! But, after Mother’s Day I have found myself looking through so many photos of Baby K, and reflecting on this little nugget coming into the world. Huge thanks to Julie Wilmes for photographing this little life coming into the world!

Kaden was a big baby and I had a lot of fluid, so the doctors planned an induction. I was progressing pretty well so I thought he may just show up that day anyways. I’ll never forget checking into the hospital for my C-Section. The lady handed me a form and on It were different things to fill out. I easily filled out my name and address… all the basic information. Then, I came to a box that said “complaint” and I skipped It because I really had a great pregnancy. I didn’t have any complaints and nothing was actually wrong with me. When I handed It back to the lady at check in she said “You have to fill out your complaint.” I responded with a smile and said, “But I don’t have any complaints”. She then proceeded to ask why I was there and tell me I needed to put something down. We all started laughing-everyone but the check in lady- because we all read It that way and thought It was so funny that we didn’t realize It was asking why we were there. We laughed all the way down the hall. She was serious the entire walk to the room.

It was a fun night full of laughter with my sister and Aaron hanging out! We just laughed and laughed and watched a lot of golf. We had the U.S. Open on the whole time we were in the hospital. It was so cute because my dad said, “We’re watching the U.S. Open now, and when you were born, we were watching the Bob Hope Classic.” My parents and Aaron’s parents came and sat in the waiting room the next day. And, my mom was in there braiding my hair prior to surgery. It took all day, everything progressed well and quickly until It didn’t progress any further. They rushed me into the C-Section. I was a mess. So nervous and so nauseous.

I don’t remember much from the actual surgery other than my Dr. was about to start and she said “Where is her husband? Did someone go get him?” And, I was so glad she did! I was wondering when they were going to bring him in! The anesthesiologist was my best friend. She held my hand until Aaron got there. I remember the Dr. talking about the microburst that had just hit Dallas and how all of the food in her refrigerator had gone bad from the electricity going out. I remember staring up at that light and feeling like I had just been transported to one of the tables on Grey’s Anatomy. It was all so surreal until…

Kaden was born! They held him up and when they pulled him out he was peeing everywhere. Yep, everywhere. Everyone was laughing. I was laughing and crying all at the same time. Aaron and I were in awe! What a cute tiny little guy with a very unfortunate cone-head! He tried his best to get out but just couldn’t. After Aaron went to see Baby K they brought him over to me and I was just so happy to finally hold the little human that had lived inside me for the last few months. It so amazing just to see him and feel the reality of having a little baby. All those months, there was a small part of me that still thought we may not make It all the way. I feel like the Lord gave me peace for whatever might happen but I felt a great amount of relief just holding his tiny squishy self in my arms.

Letting Kaden meet our families was so special too. I will never forget It. I am just so happy to be a mama to Baby K. He has changed my life in so many ways.
