Frantic Friday: Here’s to Year Three
Woohoo! This past week, Aaron and I celebrated two years of marriage! Can you believe it has already been two years? I certainly can’t! It has flown by! But, I am so grateful. I am married to an amazing man who has wonderful priorities and I couldn’t be more blessed by the way he leads our marriage, especially in the last couple months.
If you know me, you know I love a good chick flick! Anyone else with me? I’m not going to lie, when I got married, I thought life would be like the movies. I’m not sure why I thought this, as I have heard people tell me it’s not like the movies. I’m not sure if it was that or the fact that I had two amazing parents whose relationship I watched as I grew up. They seemed to have it all together just like the movies, as I’m sure they did. But we are not Brad and Cathy (my parents) or Jack and Rose (Titanic). My relationship is different, just as yours is different than mine.
Year one I learned that marriage is harder than I realized, but totally worth it! It came with change in every area of my life. Work, location, church, friends, responsibilities, etc. all changed in a very short amount of time for me. But, I quickly adjusted! I am happy to say that whatever change you may go through, you are not alone. Not only are other people going through change, but the Holy Spirit is with you every step of the way. Year Two I learned that even though I thought we had learned everything about each other (who was I kidding? This is just the beginning), I was definitely going to learn more. I have to say that some things I learned were good and some were not as great, and I’m sure Aaron would feel the same way about me.
But something has really resonated with me in the last couple months and that is, “But to be fully known and truly loved is, well, a lot like being loved by God” (Thanks Timothy Keller). I think that is how God is seen and glorified in marriages. No one is perfect. But we see the love of Christ through marriage when we are completely honest with our spouses and they love us despite our flaws, they extend grace, and they celebrate our successes while encouraging and inspiring each other. What a beautiful display of true love. Can it really get any better than that?
I ramble on just to say that my marriage isn’t perfect despite all the wonderful, lovey posts on Instagram or Facebook. But my marriage is a blessing and I am so grateful for the man the Lord has brought into my life. Here’s to year three, to the adventures, the experiences, and the lessons to come!
