Mike- He was my neighbor all growing up. I didn’t know much about Mike, but everything I did know was good. He was friends with my parents, he always asked how I was, and he had a really awesome old red car. I don’t know cars well enough to even know what kind, but it was awesome! I knew that he was very kind, and that he loved Carrie Underwood, that he had two girls who had families of their own, and that he was a builder (he owned the company that built my elementary and high school SCA). I also knew his wife, Julie Tarver. Julie taught me how to make pies, she always invested in my latest business venture, and she encouraged me. I would come over to their house and wrap Christmas presents for her, she would teach me how to make Coffee (which I never liked…still don’t), and she would make fudge with me. The year Aaron and I started dating, Julie (Mike’s late wife) passed away. We were all very sad. It was tragic for the family and for everyone whose lives Julie had touched (she really touched so many).
Julia- The first time I met Julia, she was sitting across a desk from me, interviewing me. Julia worked for PB Bell, a sister company of MT Builders (Mike’s company). Mike got me the interview, and I was so grateful because I got to work for Julia for a Summer. It was one of the best Summers I had working at a job. Julia was fun, a terrific boss, and a great team builder. Together we spent a lot of time at the office (obviously) but we would go out for lunch (Julia would get soup very often). One of my favorite trips with Julia was a trip to Sedona, where the HR team hiked and ate lunch in the middle of the Red Rocks.
Mike and Julia- Mike and Julia met about 20 years ago at work. As I mentioned before, they worked for sister companies, and they were both part of a hiking club that both of the companies had established together. They were always friends at work, they would be in meetings together and would see each other in passing through the halls. After Mike’s wife passed away, they were at a company function together and talked about going on a hike together. Like the gentleman he is, Mike called Julia and asked to take her out to dinner. You guessed it, she said “Yes! They had such a great time together and it was so comfortable that they continued dating. As they dated, just like most, they tried out each other’s interests as well as spending their time hiking, bike riding, and working out like they both enjoyed to do. Mike introduced Julia to car shows and Julia introduced Mike to Musicals, rounding out each other. They never thought life could be so wonderful and full of so much joy doing things they love with the person they love! When it came time for Mike to pop the question, it was no surprise that Julia said yes! They are so happy to get to spend the rest of their lives together! And, I am so glad I got to photograph them on one of the best days of their lives.
